CAF has signed a contract with Serbian state-owned company JSC Srbijavoz to supply 30 electric commuter units for Belgrade’s BG Voz suburban rail network. The deal, which includes full-scope maintenance for two years, is worth in excess of 300 million euros.

The new three-car units, based on the Civity platform, will have capacity for 546 passengers, 204 of them seated, and will be capable of a maximum speed of 120 km/h. The interior layout incorporates six multifunctional areas with space for up to 18 bicycles and has been designed to enhance comfort and operational performance for the Serbian operator.

The car bodies will be constructed in aluminium and, unlike standard Civity formations, these trains will not be articulated. CAF highlights that the units will be optimised to simplify maintenance and deliver strong acceleration and braking performance on a stop‑start suburban service profile.

This is CAF’s second rail contract in Serbia, following the agreement signed in 2009 to supply 30 trams to Belgrade, which are already in revenue service.
