Renfe has launched the first call of its 2026 Public Employment Offer (OPE), aiming to recruit 550 new drivers. Of these, 15 will be assigned to international services with France.

This initial call forms part of a broader hiring process set to bring in over 2,000 new professionals to the public operator. The figure stems from the standard replacement rate, additional authorised rate, and a recent deal with certain unions that ended February’s strike.

This recruitment bolsters the driving workforce, ensures generational handover, and safeguards the quality and safety of rail services amid rising sustainable mobility.

Applicants must hold a licence and diploma for driving rail vehicles to enter the selection process.

The application window closes on 24 March via Renfe’s jobs portal.
