Metrovalencia, the metro network serving the Spanish city of Valencia, has closed the 2026 Fallas with record-breaking figures: 2,875,799 passengers travelled by metro and tram during the 168 hours of uninterrupted service provided from Friday 13 to the early hours of Friday 20 March, after the traditional cremà.
The Third Vice President and Regional Minister for Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery, Vicente Martínez Mus, highlighted that the deployment by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) “worked exactly as planned, without any major incidents, thanks to the dedication of all Metrovalencia staff.” An additional 123 officers were brought in to maintain safety and manage the heavy flow of passengers.
For the first time ever, Metrovalencia operated continuously for seven days across all its lines, a milestone Martínez Mus described as “historic.” He also stressed that this achievement follows the reconstruction of facilities damaged by the DANA storm in October 2024.
The busiest days were 18 March (464,513 passengers), 17 March (439,091) and 13 March (424,438). The most frequented stations were Xàtiva, Colón, Àngel Guimerà, Plaça Espanya and Alameda.
The extended service prevented over 1.3 million private car journeys, reducing CO₂ emissions by 1,192.9 tonnes and saving 430,000 litres of fuel.
