Metro de Madrid will launch the Metropaq project in March, an initiative that will see the installation of smart lockers for parcel collection—known in English as “lockers”—at all 19 stations along Line 3.
Each station will be fitted with three terminals of different sizes, forming a total of 57 collection points capable of handling over 3,000 parcels a day. These lockers will operate 365 days a year during the full opening hours of the underground network.
Amazon, GLS, and SEUR will integrate their delivery services into the system by mid-March, with full operation expected in April. According to the Regional Government of Madrid, more than 2,000 parcels will be transported daily using a sustainable model that does not interfere with passenger movement.
The initiative builds on a pilot scheme launched on MetroSur and aims to establish a fully fledged underground logistics network for the city. By relying on cleaner transport solutions, it is estimated to eliminate more than 50,000 kilometres of surface delivery routes every day.
The project is expected to be rolled out across the entire network, with the Regional Government of Madrid describing it as a globally pioneering initiative. It also confirmed that all revenue generated will be reinvested into improving the service, further strengthening the role of metro stations as urban logistics hubs.
