The suspension of services between Antequera and Málaga, now extended until 23 March, has compelled Iryo to implement a Temporary Redundancy Plan (ERTE) impacting 40 staff members at its Málaga maintenance and operations base.

Spain’s Directorate-General for Labour has recognised the situation as force majeure, giving the private high-speed operator the green light to proceed with the employment measure.

High-speed services between Córdoba and Málaga have been halted since 4 February, following a landslip near Álora caused by storm Leonardo, which led to the collapse of an embankment and significant damage to the infrastructure.

While Renfe has put in place a replacement transport plan, both Ouigo and Iryo have completely suspended their operations between Córdoba and Málaga.

According to company sources, the ERTE will remain in effect until 23 March, pending the full reopening of the corridor. Affected employees will receive statutory unemployment benefits, which Iryo will top up to ensure they receive 100% of their usual salary.

The rail operator emphasised its commitment to preserving jobs and restoring normal operations as soon as conditions allow trains to resume running between Madrid and Málaga.
