The Spanish engineering company COMSA has successfully completed its first operation as a railway company, hauling plant machinery between Brazatortas and Puertollano stations.
This pathfinder working took place during the week of 12 January, marking the effective start of its new activity. For the haulage, it deployed a Series 333.3 locomotive.
This inaugural move wraps up the process that began with the award of the Railway Undertaking Licence and the Single Safety Certificate, both granted by the State Railway Safety Agency (#AESF).
The firm has no plans to run freight traffic. It aims to shift its civil plant more efficiently, swiftly, and independently.
With this activity, the company returns to on-track operations. Back in 2002, it set up a subsidiary Comsa Rail Transport, for logistics and rail freight haulage. It secured Spain’s first private freight licence in 2005, starting operations in Spain in 2007 and Portugal in 2009.
In July 2017, Comsa agreed to sell it outright to SNCF Logistics, with the deal closing on 31 October 2018; it was then rebranded as Captrain España.
