Ángeles Táuler, who until today served as Manager of the PTFE (Spanish Railways Technology Platform), has been appointed Managing Director of the Spanish Railways Foundation.
She becomes the head of the organisation and the first woman to hold this position, after dedicating more than 35 years of her career to the foundation. She replaces José Ramón Sempere, appointed in April 2024, who was embroiled in several controversies during his time at Mercasa. Among them was the suicide of one of its executives, declared a workplace accident caused by harassment during Sempere’s presidency.
Sempere’s tenure at the Foundation was marked by a turbulent period within the organisation, with several conflicts of varying seriousness. According to internal sources, the working atmosphere had become very negative, and problems were piling up.
The arrival of Ángeles Táuler marks a turning point for the Spanish Railways Foundation. According to her LinkedIn profile, she joined the organisation in January 1991 as a Coordinator and Researcher in Training, Studies and Projects – Directorate of Studies and Programmes. Over her long career, she has served as Director of the Madrid Railway Museum and has held several positions in the foundation’s communications area.
Nonetheless, her professional path has been closely tied to research. Since 2012, Táuler has managed the PTFE, FFE’s specialised platform dedicated to studying the future of rail transport — one of the Foundation’s most dynamic yet least-known divisions.
Táuler now takes the helm of the organisation with the challenge of bringing it back on track and strengthening its projects for the preservation of historic railway heritage. Under Adrián Fernández Carrasco’s leadership, this field experienced strong growth, though much of it was left unrealised after he was prematurely replaced by Sempere.
From all of us at Trenvista, congratulations, Ángeles, on this outstanding achievement.
