Catalan Government’s Territories councillor, Sílvia Paneque, has called on striking drivers this Monday to honour minimum service levels on Rodalies, after checks showed they weren’t being met in the early hours of the shift.
“The right to strike is a cornerstone of our democratic system, but the right to mobility is too,” she stated.
The strike called by rail trade unions kicked off with widespread delays and cancellations across all lines, causing passenger pile-ups at high-demand stops like Sants.
The Generalitat had set a 66% run rate for peak hours, a figure not being hit according to the Government, which has instructed alternative workings on the hardest-hit sections.
Meanwhile, parties like the Comuns have demanded Renfe and the authorities show “maximum efficiency” to guarantee minimums and spare passengers further grief.
On a parallel track, Paneque confirmed Adif has certified the fix on the R4 stretch at Gelida, knocked out by January’s derail, though passenger services haven’t restarted yet.
