The joint venture comprising CAF’s signalling division and Magtel has been awarded the contract for the comprehensive renewal of safety installations on Line 400 (Alcázar de San Juan–Cádiz), covering the Espeluy–Córdoba section.

With a budget of nearly €68 million and a scope of 97 kilometres, the project will modernise the signalling and control systems to raise safety, reliability, and availability standards across the infrastructure.

The technical solution is built entirely on CAF Signalling’s proprietary Quasar Q4 platform. This product family encompasses both electronic interlockings and Object Controllers — equipment responsible for directly managing trackside assets such as points, signals, and level crossings, whilst acting as the interface between those assets and the interlocking.

Seventeen interlockings will be installed at stations between Espeluy and Jaén, along with two Object Controllers at the Alcolea gauge-changer and at Andújar Trayecto.

All equipment will be interconnected via the EULYNX protocol, the European standard designed to facilitate interoperability between systems from different manufacturers. The project also includes ASFA Digital, LED signals, electromechanical point machines, new train detection systems, technical buildings, and a full cabling layout.
