The Regional Government of Valencia, through the Autoritat de Transport Metropolità de València (ATMV), has brought into service a self-service vending machine for personalised smartcards at Colón station on the Metrovalencia network. The equipment, installed adjacent to the customer service office, enables passengers to collect cards within seconds using a QR code issued after an online application.

The process removes the need to queue at staffed counters: once an application is approved, the user receives a QR code by email, which is scanned at the machine to dispense the card. The unit is available throughout station opening hours, broadening collection windows.

Since launch on 27 April, more than 1,000 cards have been issued. ATMV is currently handling around 400 applications per day, with peaks exceeding 15,000 in 2025 during campaigns such as Móbilis30. In parallel, the Colón office serves roughly 350 customers daily, many of whom are for collections.

The initiative is intended to decongest front-office operations, cut waiting times and allow staff to focus on exceptions and incident handling. Subject to performance assessment, ATMV will consider deploying the model at additional locations across the network.
