The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through Adif AV, has awarded a €20.3 million contract for the renewal of 7.8 km of conventional line 824 Redondela–Santiago de Compostela, in the province of Pontevedra.
At the time of publication, the winning contractor had not yet been disclosed.
The works include renewal of the permanent way (rails, sleepers, ballast and turnouts), cutting reinforcement, the upgrading of 16 bridges and drainage works.
Two major interventions stand out: the enlargement of the loading gauge of the five tunnels on the section to accommodate rolling motorway services and to prepare for future 25 kV electrification; and the elimination of the only level crossing on the route — a pedestrian crossing at Cesantes, Redondela — by means of a footpath underpass 2.5 m wide and 3 m high.
The scheme forms part of the comprehensive modernisation of the Miño Line (Ourense–Vigo Guixar), with an overall investment of €265 million that includes the Guillarei–Portuguese border connection.
On that corridor, Adif is already carrying out nearly ten simultaneous works packages on the Vigo Guixar–Guillarei section (36.5 km), taking advantage of a one-month line closure that began on 7 April.
