Adif has tendered, for €2.6 million, the preparation of the construction design for the redevelopment of Griñón station and the installation of a second electrified track, to extend Madrid Cercanías line C-5 between Humanes and Illescas. The design phase precedes the procurement of the construction works.
The project will define the reinstatement of the passenger building, which has been out of service since the 1980s. The station will feature a concourse, as well as refurbished platforms protected by canopies; these will be linked by an underpass equipped with lifts. The project also includes the construction of a car park and improvements to access arrangements.
In parallel, the design will cover the track doubling of a 9.4-kilometre section between Humanes and Illescas, together with its electrification and the associated signalling and telecommunications systems, including ASFA, ETCS and GSM-R.
Adif is already working on the extension towards Illescas, with the construction of a second track and the preparation of the electrification design for the existing track between Illescas and Humanes. The scheme may receive co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
