Metro de Madrid kicks off PSD installation this Tuesday, 27 January, at Legazpi station as part of the Line 6 automation project.
Councillor for Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, visited Arganzuela-Planetario yesterday – the coordination hub for this second phase of works. The job’s in the hands of UTE Puertas andén línea 6, comprising Faiveley and two Comsa Group firms.
After renewing the track infrastructure and beefing up platforms across its 28 stops, Metro’s now on this crucial second phase for safety. PSDs – typically fitted on driverless lines elsewhere, but here with drivers – prevent punters and objects tumbling onto the four-foot. That extra safety lets trains up the speed on platform approach.
Works will run at roughly a month per station, done nights-only without bashing the regular service. The new series 10,000 stock will start arriving in July, though they won’t enter service till the PSDs are fully fitted.
To smooth the graft, Line 6 shuts early at 23:00 Sun-Thu. Free replacement buses (SC1, SC2) run till 01:30.
Each platform gets transparent modules with built-in screens for real-time passenger info.
