Renfe ended 2025 with a new record, surpassing 37.3 million trips on its high-speed and long-distance open-access services — a 6% increase on 2024.
The growth, representing more than two million additional journeys, cements the state-owned company’s position as the leading operator across all its corridors and the only profitable high-speed operator in Spain.
AVE trains, which carried over 21.5 million passengers, remain the flagship service with the highest demand. Low-cost brand Avlo also recorded an exceptional 36% rise, reaching 6.2 million trips thanks to its competitively priced tickets.
Renfe also saw gains across its other long-distance services: Alvia nearly hit six million journeys, while Euromed and Intercity together accounted for 2.6 million.
Among the busiest routes were Madrid–Barcelona, with more than 8.1 million trips, and the Levante corridor, which grew to 7.7 million.
The operator attributes part of its success to increased service frequencies, reduced journey times, and a reinvestment policy aimed at maintaining essential but less profitable routes — reinforcing mobility across the entire network.
