VinSpeed, a subsidiary of Vingroup, and Siemens Mobility have entered into a Strategic Framework Cooperation Agreement to advance high-speed rail development in Vietnam.
The German company will act as a technology partner, supplying Velaro Novo trainsets and taking charge of design, system integration, and maintenance services. Excluding the American Pioneer version, this marks the first confirmed order of the Velaro Novo.
The agreement covers collaboration on two high-speed routes:
- Hanoi–Quang Ninh (Ha Long): 121 kilometres long, with four stations.
- Ben Thanh–Can Gio: 54 kilometres long, with two stations.
All lines will feature ETCS Level 2 signalling with Automatic Train Operation (ATO), full electrification, and advanced telecommunications systems.
Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility, highlighted that the Velaro Novo will reduce energy consumption by up to 30% while offering 10% more capacity than comparable trains. Meanwhile, Pham Thieu Hoa, CEO of VinSpeed, emphasised that this partnership strengthens the country’s commitment to modern, sustainable transport infrastructure.
With this project, Vietnam takes a decisive step towards an international-standard railway network that will enhance connectivity and improve the quality of life across the nation.
