Adif Alta Velocidad has completed 50% of the works for the branch line that will connect the high-speed lines Madrid-Barcelona (line 050) and Madrid-Levante (line 040), with an investment of more than 110 million euros.

The new connection allows trains running on the Madrid-Barcelona line to reach Madrid Chamartín station and continue on to the north-northwest of the peninsula or Barajas airport, without having to end their journey at Puerta de Atocha. In addition, trains on the north-east corridor will be able to access the future Atocha through station.

Work is progressing in a complex area between the M-45 and M-50 motorways, as well as in the Perales del Río neighbourhood (Getafe), involving projects on channelling, drainage, embankments, and structures. Of particular note is the 656-metre-long Mayoral Viaduct, more than half of whose spans have already been completed. Four pergolas are also being built to bridge the high-speed lines in service.

This project, funded by European Union funds from the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, will enhance the interoperability and flexibility of the high-speed network in Madrid.
