Ouigo’s first train drivers’ strike called off

.

The Ouigo Spain train drivers’ strike scheduled for 12, 13, 23, 26 and 27 June has finally been called off following the agreement between the railway company and the Spanish Union of Train Drivers (SEMAF). Thus, all OUIGO services will run normally on these dates.

The agreement provides for the creation of a working commission between the workers’ legal representation and the company to deal with those aspects of the collective agreement that may generate controversy.

The company has also reached a private agreement with the employee whose situation caused the conflict and is committed to maintaining a good working environment.

At the root of the conflict was the dismissal of a driver who, according to OUIGO, failed to achieve the required safety levels despite receiving training and coaching.

The company defends that it offered the worker an alternative within the company, which was rejected, and claims to have always acted following the collective agreement and internal procedures.

Ouigo has publicly thanked SEMAF for its willingness to engage in dialogue and reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its employees and job creation in its statement.
