Stadler has obtained authorisation for its EURO6000 electric locomotive to operate in Belgium, following certification in Luxembourg at the end of 2025.
With this approval, the EURO6000 becomes the only locomotive on the market authorised to run along the entire North Sea–Mediterranean corridor, one of the core TEN-T axes linking southern and northern Europe via Spain, France, Luxembourg and Belgium.
More than 100 EURO6000 units are already in service, hauling international freight trains between France and Spain. These are six-axle multisystem electric locomotives rated at 6 MW (under 25 kV 50 Hz AC), capable of hauling trains exceeding 2,000 tonnes on demanding gradients with a single unit while maintaining competitive commercial speeds.
Íñigo Parra, Executive Vice-President of Stadler’s Spain division, noted that the authorisation “opens new opportunities for freight operators seeking sustainable and competitive cross-border transport solutions”, enabling uninterrupted flows between Barcelona and Antwerp, with Valencia to follow.
With this expansion of its operational scope, Stadler highlights that the EURO6000 reinforces its commitment to modal shift to rail in Europe, offering a solution that combines high performance, operational flexibility, reliability and environmental sustainability.
