The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has obtained a favourable Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Torrellano Deviation information study, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), representing a decisive milestone for the project.

The environmental approval enables progression to final approval of the study and subsequent delivery of a key intervention within the remodelling of the Alicante rail node. The deviation will enhance Cercanías performance on line C1 and increase operational capacity by removing the reversal at San Gabriel. It will also support integration with the Mediterranean Corridor.

In addition, it will provide a direct rail link to Alicante–Elche Miguel Hernández Airport and allow the decommissioning of the coastal alignment between San Gabriel and Agua Amarga, facilitating urban reconnection with the seafront.

The scheme will be delivered in two phases and will feature predominantly double-track electrified standard gauge. The remaining independent section to San Isidro will be converted to standard gauge (see: https://www.trenvista.net/noticias/ancho-estandar-alicante-san-isidro/). The EIA also confirms the interim diversion of freight services via the Murcia–El Reguerón high-speed line, avoiding temporary works on the الساح coastal route.

With this approval secured, the Ministry is moving towards final project authorisation.
