Trenitalia France has signed a 35-year lease agreement with SNCF Réseau for a site at Maisons-Alfort Pompadour, in the south-eastern outskirts of Paris, where it will construct a new high-speed train maintenance depot for its Frecciarossa fleet.

Backed by an investment exceeding €80 million, the facility will play a key role in strengthening the Italian FS Group subsidiary’s foothold in the French railway market. It will enable the company to maintain its trains without sending them back to Italy or relying on SNCF workshops—facilities that proved difficult to access in the past.

Workshop to service up to 25 trainsets

Located along the corridor running south from Paris–Lyon station, the new complex is due to enter service by late 2029. It will feature three maintenance tracks, allowing work on three trainsets simultaneously, in addition to dedicated washing, cleaning, and stabling areas. In total, it will be capable of handling up to 25 trains and will operate round the clock.

The depot will serve trains currently running between Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Turin and Milan. It will also maintain the rolling stock for the forthcoming Paris–London service, which will compete with Eurostar and Virgin Trains and is expected to begin before the end of the decade.

According to Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS), the new facility will be a strategic asset that enhances fleet management and maintenance while reinforcing Trenitalia’s role in fostering sustainable European mobility.

Beyond its operational benefits, the construction and operation of the depot will create around 100 direct and indirect jobs, ranging from technical posts to support and service roles linked to daily operations.
