Stadler and Željeznički prevoz Crne Gore (ŽPCG) have signed a contract for the delivery of three four-car FLIRT electric multiple units, intended to modernise passenger rail services in Montenegro.
The new trains are based on the FLIRT platform, already in operation across several European networks. The units will be similar to those deployed in Serbia, enabling for the first time the operation of modern electric rolling stock on cross-border services between the two countries.
The vehicles will be tailored to the characteristics of the Montenegrin network and will feature an արտաքին livery inspired by national colours. According to the operator, they will enhance passenger comfort, safety and service reliability, while strengthening the attractiveness of rail for both residents and tourists.
The project is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and forms part of the country’s strategy to promote more sustainable mobility aligned with European standards.
For Stadler, the contract marks Montenegro as its 50th market, reinforcing its footprint in south-eastern Europe and underlining the growing role of rail transport in the region.
