Siemens Mobility has unveiled the Vectron X at its Munich-Allach plant, marking an evolution of the Vectron locomotive platform and a renewed focus on digital traction systems.

The flagship innovation is TrainPlay, an onboard app store accessed via an 11.6-inch touchscreen. It enables drivers to use Siemens and third-party applications, consolidating tools previously split across smartphones and tablets.

Planned applications include diagramming tools, internal operational systems, route information, traffic management functions, and operator communication solutions.

One of the first available apps is Eco Cruise, which advises on energy-efficient driving based on route profile. Another notable feature is remote start, designed to pre-condition the locomotive and reduce preparation times in cold climates.

The user interface and applications can be viewed on Siemens’ dedicated website.

Continuous connectivity and predictive maintenance

The Vectron X transmits operational data in near real time, enhancing operational transparency and enabling predictive maintenance strategies. Siemens retains the modular approach of the Vectron family, targeting both freight and passenger services with multiple voltage and speed configurations tailored to different markets.

The launch coincided with the افتتاح of the Munich-Allach Rail Service Center, a 2,000 m² facility dedicated to rolling stock maintenance, bringing manufacturing and servicing together on a single site.
