We continue to provide record figures for the use of the Spanish metro networks. Metro Bilbao, in charge of lines 1 and 2 of the Bilbao underground network, has exceeded 100 million annual journeys for the first time in its history, registering 100,363,551 trips in 2024, which represents a growth of 8.6% over the previous year.

The busiest day coincided with the celebration of Athletic’s Cup victory on 11 April, with 485,997 trips. It was followed by Athletic’s Europa League match and Black Friday.

The increase in users has mainly taken place on weekends, public holidays and weekday afternoons, reflecting an increase in the use of the metro for leisure activities. However, weekdays continue to account for the highest volume of journeys, with an average of 310,886 trips per day.

Casco Viejo station remains the most used, followed by San Mamés, Abando and Moyúa.

Creditrans continues to be the most popular ticket, although monthly passes have experienced the greatest growth. This historic record consolidates Metro Bilbao as a fundamental pillar of urban mobility in the city.
