The Spanish Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, has announced that the feasibility study for the upgrade of the railway section connecting Logroño with Miranda de Ebro on line 700 has obtained a positive outcome.

The planned investment will range between 225 and 400 million euros, depending on the alternative selected.

The project, which includes several alternatives, aims to upgrade the line to operate at maximum speeds of 200-220 km/h and to equip it with passing loop facilities allowing the stabling of freight trains up to 750 m in length.

Thanks to this project, the commercial speed will increase by 46%, and passenger trains will save 21 minutes between the two cities. Additionally, a gauge changer will be constructed in Miranda de Ebro to connect with the high-speed network.

Santano informed the Infrastructure Minister, Daniel Osés, that the next step will be to present the project to the Advisory Council on Transport and Sustainable Mobility and to tender an Information Study in 2026 to further examine the favourable options.

This section is part of the global network of the Trans-European Transport Network, TEN-T.
