The semi-private operator Iryo will be responsible for transporting the Spanish episcopate between Madrid and Barcelona on 9 June, within the framework of Pope Leo XIV’s Apostolic Journey to Spain. The service will enable bishops to continue their agenda alongside the Pontiff following the Madrid stage, and will also include part of the accredited press.

The company will make one of its Frecciarossa trains available to the organisation, adapted for the occasion with the official imagery of the visit. As Iryo notes, the train has eight carriages and capacity for 461 passengers.

The operation will feature reinforced staff on board and gastronomic service under the Haizea brand, with a specific menu for the event. The initiative is carried out on a pro bono basis and forms part of the collaboration between private entities and the journey organisation.

The national journey coordinator, Yago de la Cierva, has highlighted the involvement of the business sector in the event logistics, while Iryo CEO Fabrizio Favara emphasises the operator’s capacity to offer mobility solutions adapted to singular demands. The train has been personalised with the official logo and motto “Alzad la mirada” (Look Up) of the visit. The convoy features leather seats with the greatest seat spacing in the market.
