The Alameda–Rancagua–San Fernando suburban service, traditionally branded Metrotren, now accepts debit, credit and prepaid bank cards as well as digital wallets, marking the completion of the third phase of the Conecta system. The upgrade follows earlier deployment of modernised AFC gates and QR-based ticketing.
The new functionality, branded Pago AlToke, allows passengers to validate entry by tapping a card or mobile device on the reader, removing the need for stored-value top-ups and reducing gate transaction times. Each medium supports a single, non-transferable journey.
EFE Central states that the initiative responds to sustained ridership growth — exceeding two million passengers year-to-date — and is intended to streamline passenger flows through a faster, contactless model. The regional transport authority highlights the benefits for regular users, particularly through reduced administrative steps.
As an incentive, fares paid with Mastercard debit or prepaid cards will receive a 50% rebate, conditional on exit validation using the same card.
The system is already in operation on other suburban corridors such as Limache–Puerto and Biotren, supporting wider interoperability and technological standardisation across EFE’s network.
