Adif and the Centro Español de Logística (CEL) have signed a two-year collaboration protocol aimed at encouraging the uptake of rail within supply chains.
The agreement, structured through the Office of the Atlantic Corridor Commissioner, seeks to identify and advance solutions that favour modal shift towards rail, with the direct involvement of train operating companies, logistics operators and shippers.
As part of the partnership, CEL, the aforementioned Office and the Spanish Railway Technology Platform (PTFE) have established a working group comprising operators, shippers and supply chain directors from various sectors. The group will produce an annual strategic report setting out operational proposals to facilitate rail’s integration into supply chains, with findings to be presented at the Rail Freight Protagonists Forum, scheduled for 12 November in Madrid as part of the Logistics & Automation trade fair.
Pedro Marco de la Peña, chairman of Adif, stressed that the objective is to achieve a 10% modal share for rail freight by 2030. Ramón García, director general of CEL, underlined the need to move towards a more balanced modal split in the face of mounting pressures on other modes of transport.
