Alstom has signed a landmark contract with PKP Intercity for the manufacture of 42 double-decker Coradia Max trains. Worth €1.6 billion, the agreement includes 30 years of comprehensive maintenance.

In addition, it provides for the option to purchase 30 trains to further modernise the Polish public passenger operator’s fleet. These trains will be used for long-distance services.

The new vehicles will be assembled at the Chorzów and Nadarzyn plants. They will have more than 550 seats, a top speed of 200 km/h and full accessibility, with specific areas for families and people with reduced mobility. They will feature air-conditioning systems, free wifi and spaces for luggage, bicycles and trolleys.

The rolling stock production starts in Chorzów, Alstom’s international innovation centre and a reference in aluminium welding, while the bogies will be manufactured in Nadarzyn, the first Polish centre of its kind to work with high-speed trains.

Maintenance will cover both preventive and predictive management, supported by advanced digital tools that ensure maximum reliability.

The first Coradia Max is expected to be on the road in Poland in three and a half years.
