Iryo has signed an agreement with Allianz Partners and Aon to embed travel insurance in its ticket sales channel. The arrangement will let customers add cover, such as cancellation and assistance during the booking flow, without having to use external services.

The model is based on collaboration between the rail operator, the broker Aon and insurer Allianz Partners, which will jointly design the products and their commercial rollout. This kind of integration is common in air transport and is now being extended to Spain’s high-speed rail market.

The initial deployment is scheduled for the final quarter of 2026. Beyond making insurance simpler to buy for passengers, the agreement opens up a new complementary revenue stream for Iryo, moving beyond fare income alone.

For the wider sector, the move reflects a broader trend towards bundling additional services into the travel experience itself, with the aim of increasing spend per customer and improving competitiveness against other transport modes.
