High-speed rail traffic at Madrid Chamartín station was suspended early this Thursday afternoon due to an electrical fault caused by the derailment of the rear power car of a 130 series train.
The train, which was entering track 25 at Chamartín at its southern end, was travelling on the Alvia 04143 from Alicante, bound for Palencia, with a bus replacement service to Santander. The incident took place at 14:00 and did not cause any personal injury.
However, it has meant the interruption of the electricity supply in part of the facilities and the paralysis of the high-speed corridors with origin or destination Chamartín (Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Valencia, Galicia, Murcia, and the Basque Country).
Adif AV technical teams worked to restore the power supply, which allowed power to be restored to part of the station at around 15:00 hours and re-established traffic to the north and northwest of the peninsula.
However, high-speed corridors to and from Valencia, Alicante and Murcia are still affected, and passengers travelling to these cities are advised to avoid travelling to the station for the next two hours.
In its communiqué, Adif regrets the inconvenience caused to users and advises them to consult the train operator to obtain updated information on their journeys.
