Users of the León Cercanías León-Guardo line have unsuccessfully requested the incorporation of FGV 2500 series trains, recently withdrawn from the TRAM d’Alacant network, as reported in Diario de León.
The demand seeks to alleviate the severe shortage of rolling stock, which is affecting the service and its reliability.
These units are identical to those of the 526 series (ex 2600 of Feve) currently running on the C-1 line of Cercanías León. Both come from a similar reform of the 2300 series manufactured between 1966 and 1973. The Valencian trains, acquired by FGV when they were created, were in service until the end of 2024 on the Alicante-Denia line.
The petition, raised by users and railway defence platforms, aims to prevent these trains from being sold to third countries while León suffers from an alarming lack of vehicles and spare parts.
This situation has led to increasingly frequent bus transfers, increasing commuter discomfort and making access to the city centre more difficult.
Despite citizens’ insistence, the administration has not responded to this demand, opting for alternatives such as reinforcing electric bus transfers, a solution that users consider insufficient.
