Adif signs EIB loan of 350 million for infrastructure renewal

Adif Alta Velocidad and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have signed a EUR 350 million loan for renewing and upgrading Spain’s rail infrastructure. This loan forms part of a total investment of more than EUR 830 million earmarked for upgrading the conventional and high-speed rail networks.

The project encompasses multiple action plans throughout the country, including:

  • Renewal of key infrastructure components.
  • Upgrading of communications systems.
  • Improved resilience to operational and climatic contingenciesInstallation of safety barriers and improved drainage systems on the high-speed network.
  • Removal of level crossings and renewal of tracks on the conventional network.

Pedro Marco de la Peña, President of Adif and Adif AV, stressed that this partnership will enable high quality standards to be maintained on the rail network. For his part, Jean-Christophe Laloux, EIB Director General, emphasised the importance of a reliable and safe rail network for promoting sustainable transport.
