The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded IDOM a €619,266 contract (including VAT) to undertake a feasibility study for a Cercanías rail link between Móstoles and Navalcarnero, with a delivery period of 24 months.
The study will assess both the viability of the new alignment and its integration with prospective network extensions in the south‑west of the Madrid region.
The initiative forms part of the Ministry’s 2025 commitment to revive a scheme originally launched by the Madrid regional government under a concession model in 2009, which was halted a year later following the concessionaire’s withdrawal. The work will evaluate the condition of partially completed civil works and their potential reuse.
It will also review the operational role of Móstoles-El Soto as an intermediate terminus, alongside options to extend service benefits to nearby municipalities such as Sevilla la Nueva, Navas del Rey and Cenicientos. Demand patterns towards proposed stations will be analysed to define an integrated public transport framework.
The project is included in the Cercanías Madrid programme and is the first among current initiatives involving the construction of new railway mileage.
