Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has replaced the access and validation equipment at Colón station to improve passenger flow, particularly for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM).
The new “flap furniture” model, supplied by Spanish company Indra, replaces older machines installed between 2003 and 2008, which had become obsolete and lacked the capability for modern features such as contactless bank card payments.
Colón is the second station to receive these new validators, following Paiporta, which was the first after its reopening on 26 June. Colón, one of the busiest stations on the network with nearly five million annual users, now features new readers that, once software updates are complete, will allow validation using contactless bank cards and QR codes on paper or mobile devices .
The project, costing €362,983.25 and funded by European Next Generation funds, forms part of the broader modernisation plan covering 535 access points and 318 validators across Metrovalencia.
In addition, FGV has enhanced the accessibility of ticket vending machines, installing 188 new units equipped with video intercoms, induction loops, contactless payment systems, and a simplified graphical interface with audio messages. The total investment in this modernisation effort exceeds three million euros .
