Adif, together with Tramesa, Transitalia and Medway, has successfully completed the commercial simulation of the rolling highway between Madrid Abroñigal and Badajoz Frontera.

The test was carried out with trains loaded with four-metre high semi-trailers to verify the compatibility of the infrastructure and logistics terminals at both ends.

The future line will connect with the Valencia-Madrid rolling highway, the first of the conventional network promoted by Adif, thus completing the Valencia-Badajoz corridor. This route will allow the continuity of the sea rolling highway linking Italy with the port of Valencia, mainly facilitating Ro-Ro traffic originating in Italy and Eastern Europe, with a possible future extension to Portugal.

With the implementation of these connections, the use of the existing rail network is optimised, the activity in intermodal terminals is boosted and rail logistics is reinforced.

Moreover, this project is part of the Ministry of Transport’s Mercancías 30 strategy, which focuses on increasing the share of rail freight transport.
