CAF has reached a historic milestone with the 1,000th tram of its Urbos platform leaving the factory, consolidating its world leadership in this sector.

Since its launch in 2006, this model has become a benchmark for its reliability, innovation and adaptation to the different cities in which it operates. Including the tram-train version that runs between Cádiz and Chiclana de la Frontera.

The first Urbos entered service in Seville in 2010 and a year later in Zaragoza. It is currently operating in 38 cities in 19 countries and, with the projects underway, the number will approach 50 in the coming years. The cities include Lisbon, Budapest, Sydney, Amsterdam, Belgrade, Birmingham, and Malaga.

The Urbos platform has been manufactured at eight CAF plants in five countries. Today, more than 2.5 million people travel daily on these trams, which have travelled distances equivalent to 15,000 times around the world.

According to CAF, commitment to sustainability is key to this success: it was the first tram to obtain the Environmental Product Declaration in 2011 and has 20% recycled materials. In addition, it has introduced pioneering innovations such as on-board energy storage, catenary-free running and autonomous driving functions.
