The Danish Railway Safety Agency (Trafikstyrelsen), the German EBA by delegation of the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), has authorised the operation of the new Talgo 230 trains purchased by the Danish public operator.
This certification allows their imminent entry into service in Denmark for international EuroCity (EC) trains. They are scheduled to enter service on the route between Copenhagen and Hamburg.
The approval process, which has involved the collaboration of organisations such as the infrastructure managers Banedanmark (Denmark) and DB InfraGO (Germany) and TÜV SÜD Rail, has required specific technical compatibility and safety tests. This follows the authorisation obtained in August for Deutsche Bahn’s Talgo 230 trains, known as ICE L.

The fleet for DSB will consist of 16 trains with up to 492 seats, with first and second class carriages and accessibility for people with reduced mobility. These trainsets, designed to run at 230 km/h, will allow Denmark to expand its international rail offer and provide more sustainable alternatives to road and air travel.
The framework contract, valued at €500 million, includes firm orders for eight trains in 2020 and a second batch in 2023. Apart from DSB, the Talgo 230 has also been purchased by Germany’s Deutsche Bahn and private German operator FlixTrain.
