After a month’s journey from the port of Quingdao in China, the six carriages that make up the first train of Line 1 of the Bogotá Metro have arrived in Cartagena (Bolívar) and are now on their way to the Colombian capital.
The mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán, celebrated the event and stressed that this project demonstrates the country’s capacity to execute large-scale works.
The Bogotá Metro, 60% complete, is considered the most important mobility project in Colombia and one of the largest in Latin America. It is scheduled to come into operation in March 2028. According to the manager of the Metro Company, Leonidas Narváez, a second train has already left China and will arrive in four weeks.
In total, CRRC Changchun is building 30 trains of six carriages each, fully automated and with a capacity for 1,800 passengers. In addition, their design allows up to 35% of the energy used in braking to be recovered. The entire journey, between Bosa and 72nd Street, will be completed in just 27 minutes, whereas at present it can take up to two hours.
