Deutsche Bahn (DB) has announced an investment of €200 million to enhance the interoperability of its most modern high-speed train, the ICE 3neo (408 series), enabling it to operate in Poland and France as well.

This initiative aims to enhance travel between the three countries and will be crucial in establishing the first Berlin-Warsaw service utilising high-speed equipment.

The series is still being manufactured by Siemens Mobility, which will install the necessary safety equipment for operation in both countries. According to company sources, they will be fitted with ETCS Level 2, KVB, and ATESS (also known as Crocodile) at the Krefeld plant.

The first type-approved trains are expected in 2031, although delivery will be extended to 2032.

The ICE 3neo currently operates in Germany and on international routes to Amsterdam and Brussels, having replaced the ICE 3 MS (406 series) from June 2024.

The interior design of the ICE 3neo, according to DB, stands out for its comfort: adjustable seats, wood trim and ambient lighting. Recent improvements include wireless mobile phone charging in First Class, touch-free bins in the toilets, and baby seats in the universal toilets.
