In just one year, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has completed the deployment of 770 new digital screens in 128 stations on six metro lines — the five conventional lines (L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5) and L11. Thus, modernising the Passenger Information Systems (SIV) on the Barcelona metro lines it owns.

The project, costing 5.2 million euros and partly financed with European funds from the NextGenerationEU Plan, represents a significant advance in the quality and clarity of traveller information.

The new TFT displays, with a resolution of 1920 x 540 pixels, replace the old LED panels and offer a sharper picture and kinder colours, as well as more information.

They are located both on platforms and in concourses and connecting corridors, facilitating access to relevant information before validating the ticket.

The devices display the time, arrival time of upcoming trains, disruption warnings, recommendations and corporate messages.

Data on train occupancy, last train running, lift availability and other incidents will be added shortly.

The president of TMB, Laia Bonet, stressed that this initiative represents “a further improvement in the field of innovation” and thanked the metro professionals for their work during the institutional act of the underground’s centenary.
