TMB has incorporated the last 7000 and 8000 series trains in the Metro de Barcelona network. The last train, a 7000 series, entered service on Friday, June 20, on line 3.
This marks the culmination of the most significant purchase of rolling stock in the Barcelona metro’s history, valued at 319 million euros. The first 7000 series train was delivered in May 2022.
This renovation has enabled the replacement of a third of the fleet and the removal of all trains of the 3000 and 4000 series, which contained asbestos.

The new trains run on lines 1 and 3, consume 15% less energy, and significantly improve users’ accessibility and information.
They incorporate digital screens, USB ports, LED lighting, video surveillance cameras and advanced maintenance systems. They also have spaces reserved for wheelchairs, adapted bars, accessible doors with acoustic signalling and magnetic loops for people with hearing aids.
The interior design was carried out with the collaboration of the ONCE Foundation, following the criteria of those who needed accessibility most.
According to Xavier Flores, CEO of TMB, this renovation represents “an improvement in sustainability, information and accessibility, especially for people with reduced mobility”.
