Alstom selects GMV for the AVLS of the AlUla tramway in Saudi Arabia

.

Alstom has chosen the Spanish multinational GMV to supply its automatic vehicle location system (AVLS) in the 20 Citadis trams of the “AlUla Experiential Tramway” project in Saudi Arabia. The project will connect historical and heritage sites in the region.

GMV’s SAE-R® solution, already implemented in RENFE and Barcelona tramway fleets and operators in Australia, Morocco, and Poland, will be the technological core.

The system will enable planning, real-time monitoring, the exploitation of passenger information and statistical data, and precise train location and energy optimisation in driving.

The SAE-R will be integrated with external and internal systems, such as the Train Control and Management System (TCMS), automatic train protection (ATP) and passenger counters, ensuring efficient and safe operation.

The vehicles will be equipped with GMV-designed on-board units, HMI touchscreen monitors, and a control centre for real-time operation monitoring and analysis.

The system design ensures maximum availability during failures and meets the highest cybersecurity requirements.
