Renfe will allow bicycles to be carried on Avant trains and launches the “Train + Bike” ticket on regional trains

.

Renfe has announced a series of improvements to facilitate the transport of bicycles on its trains, coinciding with World Bicycle Day.

From 15 July, complete bicycle travel will be possible on Avant trains, starting in Galicia (A Coruña-Santiago-Ourense) and gradually extending to the rest of the routes.

In addition, the obligation to carry a cover for folding bicycles is eliminated. The conditions for transporting dismounted bicycles will be more flexible, allowing them to be carried through vestibules and platforms to the train door.

On Media Distancia (regional) services, Renfe is introducing the free “Train + Bike” ticket, which guarantees a seat next to the space provided for bicycles.

This eliminates the three-euro supplement for journeys of more than 100 kilometres that existed until now. More than 80% of Renfe trains now allow the transport of complete bicycles at no additional cost, making the company the railway operator with the most facilities for cyclists in Spain.

Renfe is also renewing signage in trains and stations to improve the visibility of spaces for bicycles and people with reduced mobility, and installing secure bicycle parking in Cercanías stations in Madrid, with plans to extend them to other cities.
