The Spanish manufacturer CAF is slamming its fist on the table to conquer the Spanish high-speed market. According to ElEconomista.es, the company has offered operators interested in the second phase of the liberalisation a variable-gauge train capable of reaching 300 km/h.
In this way, CAF offers an alternative to Talgo (whose factories are overflowing), one of the options we considered in Trenvista.
This train, which could be in service in 2031, will evolve the Oaris and require the development of the BRAVA variable gauge bogie to make it compatible with 300 km/h. Until now, this CAF technology, used in the 120 and 121 series trains, only allows reaching 250 km/h.
The Oaris is CAF’s bid to cover the high-speed segment. In Spain, it has remained a mere prototype, the 105-001 acquired by Adif Alta Velocidad, but it runs in Norway for the operator Flytoget.
Its distributed traction allows a capacity of over 400 seats in a 200-metre composition, without sacrificing passenger comfort. The 100-metre Flytoget version has 248 seats in a single class.
