Transfesa sells SEMAT to Groupe CAT

.

The German railway group DB Cargo, Transfesa Logistics’ main shareholder, has reached an agreement with the French Groupe CAT to sell SEMAT, a company specialising in logistics services for new and used vehicles.

The deal, the amount of which has not been disclosed, will be formalised this summer once the necessary regulatory and corporate formalities have been completed.

According to the German group, this transaction aligns with DB Cargo’s strategy to simplify its European business by focusing on the rail business and divesting assets that are not aligned with its core business.

Idoia Galindo, CEO of Transfesa Logistics, said that the sale allows the group to align its activities with DB‘s core business, focusing on rail freight, especially in the automotive sector, and thus optimise resources and capacities for sustainable and specialised growth.

Alejandro Forbes, CEO of Groupe CAT, said the acquisition strengthened its objective of leading the European used vehicle logistics market and welcomed the SEMAT team as it looks to drive its growth and consolidate its position as a reference in the sector. The transaction is subject to the approval of Deutsche Bahn’s corporate bodies, the German Ministry of Digitalisation and Transport and the Transfesa Logistics shareholders’ meeting.
