This May, Renfe reached the figure of 20.3 million recurrent season tickets for Cercanías, Rodalies, and Media Distancia, as well as 50% Avant passes issued since September 2022.
This measure, promoted to encourage frequent travellers to use public transport, has seen steady growth: 7.1 million season tickets were issued in 2023, and in 2024, the figure rose to 7.6 million, 7% more than the previous year.
14.2 million Cercanías and Rodalies season tickets, 5 million Media Distancia season tickets, and 1.1 million Avant season tickets were issued until 4 May 2025. The free travel cards will be valid until 30 June 2025, except in Cantabria and Asturias, where the discount will be maintained throughout the year. The 50% Avant services will continue until December.
From 1 July, new discounts will come into force, such as the single Cercanías ticket.
The Ministry has reinforced anti-fraud rules to ensure the proper use of season tickets, which are nominative and non-transferable and controlled by ID cards and dynamic QR codes.
