Adif is preparing to start the final stage of the metric gauge railway integration works in La Felguera and Sama (Langreo), Asturias.

From 27 January, work will begin to connect the new underground route with the rest of the Gijón-Laviana line. This project, with an investment of 47 million euros, includes the construction of new stations in Sama Los Llerones and La Felguera-Langreo Centro, as well as the elimination of all level crossings on the above-ground section.

During this phase, which is incompatible with rail traffic, Renfe will implement an alternative bus transport plan between El Berrón and Laviana. The works are expected to be completed in March, after which Adif will request authorisation from the AESF (Spanish railway agency) to put the new facilities into service.

Once the surface tracks have been dismantled, the land will be handed over to the Principality of Asturias for future development works.

This project is part of a comprehensive renovation of the Gijón-Laviana line, which includes improvements in signalling, electrification and safety, reinforcing the reliability and capacity of the line.
