The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has formalised a contract for the preparation of a feasibility study for a Cercanías link between Móstoles and Navalcarnero. The commission, awarded to IDOM Consulting, Engineering, Architecture, is valued at €619,266 (incl. VAT) with a 24‑month programme.
The study will examine delivery options for the scheme and its compatibility with potential south‑west Madrid extensions, including possible Cercanías penetration to Sevilla la Nueva, Navas del Rey and Cenicientos. It will also assess access to new stations and the role of Móstoles‑El Soto as an intermediate terminus.
The project revives a line initiated in 2009 by the Community of Madrid under an agreement with the central government, halted in 2012 following the concessionaire’s withdrawal. The Ministry is now taking forward delivery, as announced by Minister Óscar Puente in 2025, after the regional government requested central takeover in 2021.
The contract will also determine the condition of partially completed works and their potential for reuse. This is one of the few Cercanías expansion schemes currently in development and the first in Madrid on new infrastructure since 2011.
