The Spanish nationwide pass has been in force for just over five months. Since its launch on 19 January 2026 to 22 June, it has generated more than two million journeys on Renfe’s Media Distancia and Cercanías networks, with steady growth adding close to half a million trips in the last month alone.
Media Distancia accounts for the bulk of demand, with 1.73 million journeys, including conventional services and selected Avant workings such as Ourense–A Coruña and the Avant Exprés Barcelona–Tortosa. Cercanías and Rodalies together total more than 275,600 trips.
The nationwide pass, issued on a named and non-transferable basis, allows unlimited travel by rail and bus for 30 days across Spain at €60, or €30 for passengers under 26. The youth fare represents 66.64% of recorded boardings on Renfe, indicating strong uptake among younger users.
To curb misuse, Media Distancia passengers cannot chain two consecutive services in the same direction with less than 180 minutes between departures, and travel is capped at four daily journeys on reservation-compulsory services. Breaches of the conditions lead to pass suspension and a 60-day ban on repurchase.
