The Spanish rail infrastructure manager Adif has issued a €1.55m contract for the environmental assessment and detailed design of a new bridge over the River Jarama on the conventional Line 300 Madrid Chamartín Clara Campoamor–València Nord. It’s located at the boundary between Aranjuez (Madrid) and Seseña (Toledo).

The scheme will replace the existing steel structure at km 45/800 with a newly built parallel bridge, improving operational reliability on a section used by Madrid Cercanías Line C-3 and critical for mixed passenger and freight flows towards Andalucía and the Levante corridor.

The contract covers both environmental permitting and the technical definition of the infrastructure. Studies will address fluvial hydraulics — including discharge capacity, span arrangement, clearances, pier layout and orientation, and scour phenomena — to determine the optimal solution. Geological–geotechnical investigations and detailed topographical surveys are also included.

The implementation period is 36 months, comprising 24 months for design development and a further 12 months for technical assistance during construction.

This project complements other upgrades on the C-3 corridor, including the commissioning of bi-directional automatic block signalling between Villaverde Bajo and Aranjuez, track renewals between Atocha and Aranjuez, and planned accessibility improvements at Ciempozuelos station.
